Tears have washed away the colour
from my world. Gone is the palette
of my soul, to be replaced
by a coal black ,encircling armour.
Winter overwhelms the autumn
I have loved in. All gentle thoughts
Descend into oblivion
As I let slip the disappearing sun.
The harshness of my world is frozen.
Thoughts and emotions hang suspended
Without time or purpose to their being.
Before, once more, I start to listen.
Somewhere, in one of my tomorrows,
Spring will penetrate my darkness
Seeping through the wall of my protection,
Making room for hope to push aside my sorrows.

THE WARNING“Does he bite?” I had asked the old man sitting on the stone wall.
“Only if you tease her,” he had replied, a smile in his eyes.
As I nursed my bleeding hand I wished I had heeded his warning.

Maneesha Sharma
Harrow Came CompleteWhat can I say about Harrow,
Except that it’s home to me?
I remember my first day here
It was June in 1993
I watched the washed and combed
School kids in their ties and coats
Some feeding the ducks in the pond
Some sailing silly paper boats
The loud clang of the school bell
Collected their screams mid-air
The school gates accepted all
The park was suddenly bare
Down the road, good ole’ Woolworths
Was swallowing mums and buggies
Getting their fix of pick ‘n’ mix
With packs of disposable Huggies
Up the road at Paige and Petrook
The man I’d met last week,
Smiled at me as I stepped in:
“Well, what is it to be?”
Schools, shops, banks and offices
A curry in every high street,
Down to its Indian cinema,
I saw that Harrow came complete
I saw my kids in that school
Then grown up with careers
I saw myself at home at last
Surrounded with friends and peers
Their accents struggled with mine
But their faces were sincere
“I’ll take it!” The lease was signed -
And that’s how I landed here!
