J’accuse

J’accuse

How could I ever forget
The long years of hurt you caused
Those tears that you made me shed
Those cries for help you ignored

You should have been there for me
To protect me as I fought
Locked in lonely agony
When my innocence was mauled

Every time I turned to you
Aching inside, bruised and raw
You said I’d made it all up
You pretended to be bored

Your own brother, goddammit!
How could you never have known?
Couldn’t bring yourself to expose
A brother who you adored.

He is married, you are old,
But I’m still your little girl lost,
Held hostage by that moment
When my life was suddenly paused.

This shame, fear, guilt and pain
Would have healed and been absolved
If only you had done something-
You were my mother, my God.
